File Storage on the Web

Page history last edited by D. Doctor 12 years, 11 months ago

For some school boards, a common issue has been finding an appropriate place to share and store documents and large files without resorting to thumb (USB) drives to bring information back and forth between school and home.  There are a number of sites, each with their own pros and cons, that one can use.

Pros to consider - Is the site....and does the site offer....???

- free

- no ads

- anytime access as long as you have access to the internet

- files can be marked as private or as public

- can store documents, images, videos, presentations

- new features are added

- can upload/and download to your computer so that documents can be accessed offline

- administrators can create student accounts

- administrators can monitor student accounts

- create documents as well as storing and sharing

The Cons of some sites....

- limited space

- only certain types of documents

- files are limited to a certain size

- privacy and confidentiality issues

- security issues

- Terms of Use state that users must be of a certain age

- Terms of Use can change

- in order to access certain features/security, one must upgrade to a premium version

- limited number of users

- if the Internet is down, no access

- who owns the content
