What is Web 2.0?

....June 11/09 - As of this morning, the English language has one million words or phrases, a popular language site claims.  And what is that phrase? - It is Web 2.0.

In simplistic terms, Web 2.0 is what can also be known as the "Read/Write Web, allowing all users to conribute content to the web in real time.  If one goes back to the earlier days of the Internet, a user had to have knowledge of html in order to add content to the web.  Now, a user can go to one of many sites such as Google Docs or You Tube, login and post content for all to see.

where there is a collection of descriptions, videos, how-tos and much more all in one place.  Pageflakes is an example of a web 2.0 tool, where one can bring in all sorts of features together in one place on a webpage.  If you sign up for the teacher edition, you can eliminate the irritating ads.  You can choose which pages are seen by the public and which are not - thereby creating your own customized page with flakes of interest to you only.  For example, I have a page that is my "coffee break" page, where I have brought in links to my favorite sites, some games that I can play right from the page, RSS feeds to news stories of interest, and much more.  See for yourself.

For classroom use, this would be an ideal tool to use as one could create a pageflake on a specific topic and have the students explore the different flakes on their own.
